Children and Adolescents

We work with children and adolescents ages 3 to 17 and offer individual child and adolescent therapy as well as parenting consultations regarding a wide range of developmental, social/emotional and behavioral issues including:

  • Attachment difficulties
  • Behavioral and conduct problems
  • Childhood depression
  • Fear and anxiety
  • Social/interpersonal difficulties
  • Adjustment to various transitions
  • Loss, grief and trauma
  • Family conflict
  • Separation
  • School refusal and school behavior issues
  • Bullying, peer interaction problems
  • Elimination disorders (encopresis, enuresis)
  • Sleep difficulties

Different psychotherapy approaches might be used to treat the above difficulties.  These might include:

Play therapy, filial therapy, dramatherapy, cognitive-behavior therapy, interpersonal therapy, behavior planning and behavior modification work, coping skills work, parental guidance, and relaxation training.

In addition to treating emotional/psychological problems, Maia Psychology Centre will assist in coordinating services with other agencies and professionals.
